After hours of negotiations, the police have managed to calm a hostage situation in Siusega where a Chinese national was holding his ex-wife hostage in his shop. Samoa Observer photojournalist at the scene, Junior S Ami reported that other Chinese nationals arrived at the scene to help the police broker a deal. The man was taken to the police station around 7 pm. He was taken by the Chinese nationals who arrived at the scene to help. The vehicle was escorted by police.

The Samoan government has officially approved the telecommunication license for SpaceX’s Starlink service, opening the door for high-speed satellite internet connectivity. The much-anticipated announcement was confirmed by Regulator Lematua Gisa Purcell, in a statement released on Friday. “This license allows Starlink Samoa Ltd to provide Internet services and equipment to operate in Samoa,” Lematua said.

Taxi drivers in Apia have voiced concerns about the frequent flooding at Fugalei, fearing it could cause costly damage to their vehicles. As the rain continues to pelter Samoa, the Fugalei, Taufusi and other areas in town continue to experience flooding because of blocked waterways. The issue has become more urgent as roads are getting damaged with most roads having potholes that pose a risk to vehicles and pedestrians.
