Rene Graham was just 15 years old when he was killed in Emslie Horniman's Pleasance Park, Ladbroke Grove, on 21 July 2024.     Residents who fled after a large sinkhole opened up in a Surrey village may not be able to return to their homes for "several weeks, if not months". Carl Bussey, Surrey County Council's chair of the Strategic Coordination Group for the incident, said assessments on properties could continue but that residents would only be able to return home when buildings were "deemed structurally safe".

    The Home Office's efforts to address violence against women and girls have not yet improved outcomes for victims, according to the public spending watchdog. Described as a "significant and growing problem", the National Audit Office (NAO) says one in 12 women can expect to experience some form of gender-based violence each year. Around one in four women will be a victim of sexual or attempted assault in their lifetime.

    Children do not feel safe, a charity has warned, as a survey finds two-thirds of teens in England and Wales have a fear of violence. The charity, which surveyed 10,000 children aged 13-17, found that 20% of teenagers have been victims of violence in the past 12 months. "I think what shocked me most is how this is a problem that affects all of our children," said Jon Yates, CEO of the Youth Endowment Fund. "We found that two-thirds of all teenage children are afraid.
