Black Type Brewing opened in mid-May at 373 Virginia Ave. Human Resource Manager Sofia Amburgey said the venture stems from “a long-held dream and a deep-rooted passion for craft beer.” About 14 years ago, when she was in high school, Amburgey began helping her father with his homebrewing as a way to spend time together. Friends and family who sampled the beer deemed it worthy of selling, so in 2021 they opened a small taproom in Mount Sterling.

Eighties music trivia buffs know that the first video ever aired on MTV, back in August 1981, was “Video Killed the Radio Star” by The Buggles. That iconic moment inspired the name of Radio Star Lounge, a new bar at 123 West Main Street dedicated to all things 1980s. Opened in late March and welcoming guests from 8 p.m. to 2:30 a.m. Thursdays through Saturdays, it’s already become a neon-soaked destination.

After closing in 2020 during the height of the pandemic, a local favorite is making a comeback with signature dishes alongside new menu items. Crust, a wood-fired pizza and pasta restaurant, reopened in late March at 3195 Beaumont Centre Circle under the ownership of Bella Notte Restaurant Group (BNRG), which also operates Bella Notte, Smashing Tomato, and Bella Cafe & Grille.

Responding to customer feedback, refreshed plans for a new Athenian Grill location are materializing. As owner Ilias Pappas explained, the restaurant will be a sit-down establishment with expanded menu offerings for Greek food lovers and soon-to-be converts.
