BATON ROUGE — Three people pleaded guilty in federal court to accusations of conspiracy to commit health care fraud during the COVID-19 pandemic. They are accused of a scheme where they used the identities of medical professionals to get controlled substance prescriptions, in addition to receiving money from federal pandemic assistance programs through fraudulent applications.

PORT ALLEN — A judge sentenced twin brothers Rob and Tom McCormick on May 9th and ordered them to pay $214,262.13 in restitution to the State of Louisiana’s Office of the State Fire Marshal. The men were found guilty late last year of several charges related to financial crimes committed against the State in 2020 and 2021. Both brothers were sentenced Friday morning, May 9th. Their sentencing was rescheduled multiple times previously.

LIVINGSTON PARISH — During the Tickfaw 200, four men working on a boat Saturday night experienced the unexpected when the vessel exploded, severely injuring one of the men and leaving the other three with minor injuries and burns. Dylan Fabre said the boat, which had been recently restored with a new motor, started to run bad on Friday, May 2nd, so he and some others had the boat out on Saturday, May 3rd, to work on changing out some parts.

KENTWOOD — The family of an Amite-area man is once again asking for the public’s help and is offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to finding him. Christopher “Do Man” Brewer was last seen in March 2020, according to the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office. On Feb. 20, 2020, Brewer last saw his family when he committed himself to TPSO’s Operation Angel program to get help for his drug addiction. According to officials, he walked away from the facility in Lacombe the next day.

BATON ROUGE — Just minutes before the start of the 2023 College Baseball World Series game in Omaha, Nebraska, Bert Berthelot suffered a fall that resulted in a spinal cord injury. Over the next three months, he stayed in multiple hospitals. Since the injury, Bert has been confined to a wheelchair and is unable to walk. Berthelot, a devoted father and grandfather, is an avid LSU and sports fan. He especially enjoys baseball, football, and basketball.
