BATON ROUGE — Baton Rouge Police officers are investigating after a 68-year-old woman was attacked and found in her home Monday night. The woman, identified as Rose Davillier, died of her injuries. Around 9:30 p.m. Monday, April 14, BRPD officers responded to a home in the 4100 block of White Sands Drive about an unresponsive female. Upon arrival, officers found the “battered body” of Davillier, according to officials. Davillier died at the scene from her injuries.

BATON ROUGE — The St. George Fire Department and officials are urging drivers to find alternate routes as Nicholson is currently closed from Gardere to Innovation Park as crews battle brush fires. This is the area south of Ben Hur. The brush fires are close to the railroad tracks in the area, which have also been shut down, the St. George Fire Department says. Traffic is being diverted coming from St. Gabriel on Nicholson down Gardere Lane.

DENHAM SPRINGS — In coordination with the Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office, deputies in Hancock County, Mississippi, recently arrested a man accused of stealing name-brand clothing and shoes from stores in the Juban Crossing area. The retail theft arrest followed multiple reports from local retailers, prompting an LPSO investigation. During the investigation, Samuel E. Johnson was identified as a suspect in the Livingston Parish thefts.

DENHAM SPRINGS — A mother is advocating for her 20-year-old daughter after she was hit while walking home from a friend’s house on March 29 and left on the side of the road, critically injured. The man who allegedly hit her and fled the scene has numerous prior offenses, including a DWI charge in 2020 and careless operation charges, UWK has found. Holly Crow said her daughter Jody Mann was walking home from a friend’s house down Render Road off of River Road around 9 p.m. that fateful Saturday.

ASCENSION — Earlier this week, the Ascension Parish Government received final approval from the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality (LDEQ) to begin work on a test site as part of the partial closure efforts at the LAlumina LLC facility. This is part of efforts to understand and mitigate the effects of a particle known as “red dirt” or “red dust” in Ascension Parish. Work has started on a four-acre red dirt test site, according to Ascension Parish officials.

Live Oak High educator loses battle to cancer teaching till the end

WATSON — Live Oak High School students and the staff are mourning the loss of a beloved AP History teacher, who passed away after battling cancer. Gary Mitchell, who had been with the school for more than 10 years and had also taught in other school districts, died on Tuesday, April 8. According to Live Oak High School Principal Gary Jones, Mitchell was so dedicated to his students that he was still teaching them even last week.

ALBANY — According to officials, both lanes of Highway 43 are currently closed from Cain’s Supermarket to the light at Florida and Highway 43 intersection due to a gas leak in the area. There is also a mandatory evacuation on South Montpelier Ave., in the area of 2nd Street to Prokop Road. Albany Police are asking all drivers and persons to avoid the area at this time and take alternate routes.
Loranger man killed while using wheelchair on Hwy 445

LORANGER — Early Thursday morning, a pedestrian in a wheelchair was hit and killed by a vehicle on LA Hwy 445 near Gliderport Road, Louisiana State Police reports. Keith Guidry, 73, of Loranger, died in the crash. According to officials, Guidry was going south in the northbound lane on Hwy 445 around 5:50 a.m. April 6. At the same time, a 1999 Ford F-350 was traveling north on the highway. For reasons still under investigation, the Ford truck hit Guidry. Guidry died at the scene.
