The event begins at 6 p.m. at L’Auberge Casino and Hotel. The National Coalition of 100 Black Women advocates on behalf of Black women and girls, as well as all women working to drive change in areas such as economic empowerment, health, education, and public policy.

PORT ALLEN — After brothers Thomas and Robert McCormick were sentenced earlier this month, 18th Judicial District Attorney Tony Clayton has filed a motion for appeal with the First Circuit Court of Appeal on the sentences they were given by Judge Alvin Batiste. Batiste ordered the twin brothers to pay $214,262.13 in restitution to the State of Louisiana’s Office of the State Fire Marshal. In addition, each brother will pay $5,000 to the Legislative State Auditor.

BATON ROUGE — A Baton Rouge man accused of helping an escaped inmate from New Orleans is out on bond after Commissioner Kinasiyukumki Kimble set his bond at $15,000. Vi Nguyen is charged with accessory after the fact and aggravated escape for his alleged involvement in helping a jail escapee. Baton Rouge Police arrested Lenton Vanburen Jr. on May 26, one of the remaining escapees from the Orleans Parish Jail, where 10 inmates escaped in total.

BATON ROUGE — Baton Rouge Police detectives arrested two people in connection to manufacturing and distributing machine gun conversion devices (MCDs) in Baton Rouge. Both individuals face 16 counts of possession of a machine gun, in addition to other charges. After receiving information from an anonymous source about an individual posting and selling MCDs through social media, BRPD opened an investigation with the help of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF).
