They are accused of a scheme where they used the identities of medical professionals to get controlled substance prescriptions, in addition to receiving money from federal pandemic assistance programs through fraudulent applications.

PORT ALLEN — A judge sentenced twin brothers Rob and Tom McCormick on May 9th and ordered them to pay $214,262.13 in restitution to the State of Louisiana’s Office of the State Fire Marshal. The men were found guilty late last year of several charges related to financial crimes committed against the State in 2020 and 2021. Both brothers were sentenced Friday morning, May 9th. Their sentencing was rescheduled multiple times previously.

LIVINGSTON PARISH — During the Tickfaw 200, four men working on a boat Saturday night experienced the unexpected when the vessel exploded, severely injuring one of the men and leaving the other three with minor injuries and burns. Dylan Fabre said the boat, which had been recently restored with a new motor, started to run bad on Friday, May 2nd, so he and some others had the boat out on Saturday, May 3rd, to work on changing out some parts.

KENTWOOD — The family of an Amite-area man is once again asking for the public’s help and is offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to finding him. Christopher “Do Man” Brewer was last seen in March 2020, according to the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office. On Feb. 20, 2020, Brewer last saw his family when he committed himself to TPSO’s Operation Angel program to get help for his drug addiction. According to officials, he walked away from the facility in Lacombe the next day.

BATON ROUGE — Just minutes before the start of the 2023 College Baseball World Series game in Omaha, Nebraska, Bert Berthelot suffered a fall that resulted in a spinal cord injury. Over the next three months, he stayed in multiple hospitals. Since the injury, Bert has been confined to a wheelchair and is unable to walk. Berthelot, a devoted father and grandfather, is an avid LSU and sports fan. He especially enjoys baseball, football, and basketball.

BATON ROUGE — Baton Rouge Police are continuing to investigate a shooting at the Baton Rouge Amazon Fulfillment Center on April 28 that left one person dead. Former Amazon employee, 21-year-old Daylon Anthony was shot and killed in an incident that was caught on camera. The suspect, identified as Carlgene Nash, 18, turned himself into BRPD on Wednesday. However, UWK has learned that police are also looking for a woman in connection to the deadly shooting.

ST. GABRIEL — A family is mourning the loss of their loved one, Katina Leggion, after she was struck and killed Sunday around midnight. Leggion was the passenger on a motorcycle when the bike’s engine died and the driver asked her to get off so he could restart it. Leggion’s daughter Kristina Reid spoke with officials to find out what happened to her mother.

GREENSBURG — A St. Helena Parish sheriff’s deputy employee has been terminated and arrested. bringing drugs and other contraband into the jail. Gregory Goods, of Denham Springs, was arrested in Livingston Parish as a fugitive for St. Helena. Goods, 56, had worked as a jailer at the St. Helena Parish Jail since April 2024. Officials learned he was allegedly bringing cigarettes, drugs and cell phone cards into the jail. It’s what led up to his termination.

DENHAM SPRINGS — A USPS mail carrier is recovering after a man on her route allegedly physically and verbally attacked her while she was delivering mail at an apartment complex located near Juban Road. Martel Carter, a mail carrier for the Denham Springs Post Office, tells UWK that a man on her route allegedly attacked her on April 14. Carter said the home is on her regular route, which she runs three to four times a week. She has been a carrier for just over a year now and said she loves her job.

MAUREPAS — Louisiana State Police are investigating a crash on LA 16 near Old Ferry Road shortly after 5:30 a.m. on Monday, April 28 in Livingston Parish. Chandon Hickerson, 26, of Vacherie, died in the crash. Hickerson was driving west on LA Hwy 16 in a 2014 GMC Sierra. A 2007 Ram 2500 pickup truck was going the opposite direction. For unknown reasons, the Ram crossed over the center line and hit Hickerson’s truck head-on. Hickerson, who was not wearing a seatbelt, died at the scene.
