1 BACKGROUND Many culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) communities in Western countries experience greater prevalence of type 2 diabetes compared to the general population. In Australia, the estimated prevalence for one of the largest language groups, the Chinese-speaking community, is as high as 17%, compared to 7.4% in the general population (Colagiuri et al., 2007).
