RICHMOND, Va. (WWBT)—On the second day of school, the Richmond School Board held its August meeting, but the board left with more questions than answers. The division pays bus drivers two hours of overtime for every after-school activity they complete, regardless of how long it takes for them to complete it. It’s a long time practice for the River City. Some say it’s causing an increase in overtime pay, and some don’t want to see it change.

HANOVER, Va. (WWBT) - It’s a notification parents in Hanover did not want to see. The mobile classrooms approved by the Hanover school board to help with overcrowding at Cool Spring Elementary, may take longer than planned. “I was excited because we need the classrooms, but I was also dismayed because it took five months from when they originally denied the classroom,” said parent Amanda Kronenberg. The decision to bring mobile classrooms to Cool Spring Elementary followed a lot of back and forth.

RICHMOND, Va. (WWBT) - One by one, 9 to 12-year-olds braved the podium Monday night, requesting council members to put traffic calming measures in their community. “I think we need a speed bump because people could get hurt, injured or put in the hospital by trying to get to the garden.” said one child part of Community Unity in Action. The local non-profit Kinfolk manages the project. Arthur Burton, who runs the non-profit, tells me the garden in Gilpin Court is just one of three.
