Taken from SUN files of July 18, 1924The new Putnam hill road is now practically completed by Eds. Teyssier, the contractor, and is open for travel to the top of the hill, where it joins with the O’Neal park road. Only a small portion at the top remains to be “dressed,” which will be done in a few days. The new road provides a nice, easy grade as compared to the old steep road. Instead of turning to the left at the west end of San Juan street, turn to the right and try out the new highway.

Taken from SUN files of April 18, 1924On Tuesday evening, April 15th, Fred Catchpole, president of the Citizens bank and identified with the institution since it was founded in 1908, retired from the active management of the bank, his interests having been purchased by David Hersch of this city. The officers of the bank are now David Hersch, president; Max R. Mickey, vice-president; and R.W. Smith, cashier.

Taken from SUN files of February 29, 1924As announced weekly in these columns, the school bond election will take place at the court house tomorrow afternoon between the hours of 2:00 and 5:00 o’clock. The qualified electors of District No. 1 will vote FOR or AGAINST the proposition whether the district shall issue $75,000 in bonds for the purpose of constructing a school building in Pagosa Springs.

Taken from SUN files of March 28, 1924At the school site referendum, held at the court house Tuesday afternoon, whereby the qualified electors of the district were given an opportunity to state their preference of five proposed sites submitted for the erection of the new school building in Pagosa Springs, no majority was received by any one site, though two, the Himes corner in east Pagosa and the old school house hill, ran about even in the favor of the voters.

Taken from SUN files of January 4, 1924As librarian of the Pagosa Public Library I will give you a short outline of how our library was started and by whom it is kept up. The Women’s Civic Improvement Club conceived the idea of giving a dinner and charging one book for each serving and in this way obtained about 250 books to start Pagosa’s library. Mr. Ed. Colton donated the use of a quaint little log house (one of the oldest in Pagosa) for the library.

Dickerson for mayor, was elected at the town election in Pagosa Springs Tuesday over the Taxpayers, headed by G.S. Hatcher, present incumbent. The vote polled, 343, was one of the heaviest in the history of the town, showing the keen interest taken by the electors.

Taken from SUN files of March 7, 1924By a vote of six to one the taxpayers of School District No. 1 last Saturday afternoon voted in favor of the issuance of $75,000 in bonds for the purpose of erecting a new school building in Pagosa Springs to take the place of the one destroyed by fire in January. The actual vote was 145 to 24, as the result was never in doubt — merely a question as to the majority.

The ordinance appears elsewhere in this issue and will come up for final reading and adoption at the February meeting.
