    Clermont city councilors were given an update on the ambitious plans for the city’s ‘Meet Us in the Middle’ project at a workshop meeting June 17. The $11million project, that aims to put Clermont firmly on the tourism map, is being handled by the city’s Powell Studio Architecture. At the workshop, Mr. Powell presented updated images of the plans and revealed new components to the designs including a veteran’s and a first responders memorial.

Once a week throughout the summer school vacation, families can pick-up seven days’ worth of breakfasts and lunches for their kids at no cost. With the government food subsidy cutbacks and high inflation, many Lake County families are feeling the pinch, so Second Harvest set-up the pilot program to bridge the meal gap.

    Last year, I fired a gun for the first time at a local shooting range. It was not pretty. I hated every minute of it – the noise, the danger, the knowledge that I was holding a weapon that could potentially kill somebody. I only did it because since my husband died in 2022, my kids and friends have been telling me to get a gun to help fill part of the void that Dave left. The safety-at-night void is what they meant, of course, but for a long time I couldn’t do it.

    Dozens of excited entrepreneurs attended the first meeting of 1 Million Cups Clermont, a national program designed to help local small businesses succeed. The first event was hosted by The View, Clermont on June 11 and more than 100 business owners from Clermont, Groveland, Winter Garden and other areas showed up in support. Set-up in 2012 by the Kauffman Foundation, 1Million Cups is a free program for entrepreneurs to share ideas, receive feedback and build community over coffee, and a chatter.
