Dozens of kids met with Clermont Police Department’s community police officers for a yummy boba to celebrate the start of summer on June 4. Sip, Chill and Chat, was held at the city’s Teamont Boba in Montrose Street and like Coffee with a Cop, it was a place to meet and hang out with the city’s law enforcement officers. However, this time, it was a chance for kids to get to know their local police heroes in a cool setting and ask questions or share great conversations.

The Groveland’s Historical Society has unveiled its plans to make the city’s history more accessible to the public. At a recent Groveland Strategic Plan Committee meeting, the society’s President Jason Brown gave an informative two-hour presentation. New Beginnings of Central Florida’s recent Boutique Night was a huge success, and organizers have promised another event in the future. Boutique Night was Jamila Smith, New Beginnings Development Manager’s idea and supporters were able to shop for bargains while enjoying wine and charcuterie. All proceeds, that amounted to more than $2,500, will go towards funding some of the Clermont-based homeless charity’s projects.

Members of the community turned-out in force to meet with Mascotte’s finest police officers at their Coffee with a Cop event on May 30. Hosted by Mascotte’s Rainbow Family Restaurant, residents were able to talk with their local police officers and ask questions or voice any concerns or complaints. The Coffee with a Cop morning is part of a nationwide initiative to build good community relations between police officers and the public.

Clermont has a new Police Chief and he’s no stranger to the city. Interim Chief John Graczyk has been named as Clermont’s next Police Chief, stepping into a role that his supporters say was meant for him. “Chief Graczyk is a dedicated officer who has repeatedly demonstrated his ability to lead the Clermont Police Department,” said Interim City Manager Rick Van Wagner. “Our City Council, our staff, and our community have made it very clear who they believe should be Clermont’s next Police Chief.
