    The City of Johannesburg conducted over 7,000 inspections and found 1,444 spaza shops and food-handling facilities were non-compliant. Gauteng MEC for economic development, Lebohang Maile, on Sunday said there were 243 closures due to non-compliance. In Tshwane, 5,851 inspections were done with 1,905 found to be non-compliant. Ekurhuleni had 9,433 inspections, 8,848 were non-compliant, and five closures. Mogale City conducted 2,351 inspections, 23 were non-compliant, with no closures.

    ANC national executive committee (NEC) member Donald Selamolela has defended secretary-general Fikile Mbalula's luxurious mode of transport to Robben Island for the party's 113th birthday celebration in Cape Town. The Sunday Times reported Mbalula arrived at Robben Island on a luxury yacht belonging to businessman Fernando Acafrao instead of the museum ferry, Sikhululekile, which transported other leaders.

    The Jacob Zuma Foundation released a statement on Wednesday morning in which it said Zuma had sent a letter to the party demanding to be reinstated as a member before the end of the month. Reacting to the letter, Mbalula instead said Zuma was being mischievous. “We are not going to respond because it [letter] seeks to divert us from the 113th-year celebration. He had an opportunity to send his love letter many days ago and he didn't. That is how he works, that's how he operates.
