WALLA WALLA, Wash. — Washington Department of Corrections (DOC) officials are planning to take its last 'death chamber' offline Wednesday morning. The small room, located inside the Washington State Penitentiary in Walla Walla is where inmates sentenced to death had a choice: die by hanging or by lethal injection. Seventy-eight inmates have been executed there since 1904, the last person being Cal Coborn Brown in 2010. In 2014, Governor Jay Inslee instituted a moratorium on the death penalty.

SEATTLE — For Collins and Pamela Ndukwe, the Fourth of July took on another layer of special meaning. For the past seven years, they have worked towards earning their United States citizenship. "We're becoming U.S. citizens via naturalization it's a journey that started seven years ago," Collins Ndukwe said. "We're originally from Nigeria, and we moved here for work and we're really excited." Four hundred people from 78 countries were naturalized at the Seattle Center Thursday.

Wing Luke Museum to debut healing mural following racist attack

SEATTLE — Nearly four months after a man took a sledgehammer to the windows of the Wing Luke Museum, shouting racist hate, the museum continues to heal from the trauma. The shattered windows have since been covered up with plywood. The plywood serves as a constant reminder of that hateful attack in Canton Alley at the heart of the Chinatown-International District, or the CID. Last week, artists were working on a solution to that problem.
