Photo by Matthew Grimes Jr./Atlanta Braves/Getty Images AJ Smith Shawver looked spectacular on Monday in a 4-0 win over the Reds. Though his bid for a no-hitter came up a bit short, he was truly dominant for most of the game in the best start so far of his young career. He continues to look like a pitcher who his finally figuring out how to effectively use his high level of natural “stuff”, and potential is starting to turn into production.

It is happening at a great time too as the Braves are in another stretch to get some needed wins in early May.

Photo by Daniel Shirey/MLB Photos via Getty Images The Braves entered Sunday with the chance of not only being swept by the dodgers for the second time this season, but also going five games below .500 this season. Fortunately, Austin Riley blasted two homers while both Bryce Elder and the bullpen were mostly excellent. The Braves still find themselves in a less than ideal situation to start the season, but they have another stretch ahead of them where they can make up some ground.

Isaiah J. Downing-Imagn Images Monday was a busy day for the Braves on and off the field. On the field, they got the job done in a 6-3 win over the Rockies, despite starting the game down 3-0 after the first inning. Off the field, Atlanta made some changes to its pitching depth and the Outfield. Recently claimed Ian Anderson was brought to Colorado to join the Braves while old friend Eddie Rosario signed a major league contract.

Sam Navarro-Imagn Images Yes, Sunday’s loss to the Diamondbacks was disappointing as the Braves had their chances to win. However, Atlanta was able to get another series win in the desert, the exact strategy of success that has resulted in them starting to slowly right the ship after a disastrous start to the season. The pitching is still a bit of a concern, but the offense is doing much better than it was a few weeks ago.
