1 INTRODUCTION Nutrients, represented as elemental (e.g., carbon and nitrogen) or biochemical (e.g., protein and carbohydrate, lipid) macronutrients (Kaspari, 2020) and micronutrients (e.g., iodine, copper and zinc; Kaspari, 2021), underpin many biological processes (Simpson & Raubenheimer, 2012).
