Five Rivers MetroParks is working with The Foodbank to offer garden-to-go kits at mobile distributions. These kits are designed to help people pad their pantry with fresh produce this spring. "So the Garden To Go kits have seeds and seedlings in them and we know that it's not going to solve world hunger, right? Like that's not that's not necessarily the aim that we're going for," said Kaitlyn Lowry, education coordinator at possum Creek Metro Park with Five Rivers MetroParks.

An Ohio mill has shipped thousands of pounds of local and organic black beans, popcorn, bean salsa, and whole grain chips, all to local food banks, over the last two years. The Shagbark Seed and Mill in Athens has been able to do this thanks to a federal program meant to get local food into the hands of people in need of groceries. These shipments accounted for 60% of Shagbark's sales, paid for by the federally-funded Local Food Purchase Assistance program.

Thenational School Nutrition Association has named Lebanon City Schools’ Nutrition Director, Megan Grippa, the Midwest region’s Director of the Year. This award recognizes nutrition directors who manage effective school meal programs providing healthy, appetizing meals to students.

The Yellow Springs Community Foundation’s Youth Action Board has spent four of the last five years fighting youth food insecurity in their community. This year, the board raised over $12,000 for three local initiatives that provide direct access to nutritious food. That funding was then matched by the Community Foundation for a grand total of $36,000 in grants.
