    A college student anti-hunger organization is advocating to pass Ohio House Bill 157, also known as the Hunger Free Campus bill. This bill would allocate $2.5 million for college students’ basic needs. This funding would help improve food insecurity programming in the state. Similar bills have been passed in 12 states and introduced in 10 others.

    New housing is under development in Dayton's Madden Hills neighborhood, as part of larger project to build 40 new homes in West Dayton and rehab 24 others around the city. The Montgomery County Land Bank broke ground on the first phase of the project in the Madden Hills neighborhood on May 9. The organization worked with local officials, community leaders, neighborhood residents and the Ohio Department of Development to design new housing developments in the community.

    The Ohio Department of Development is awarding nearly $8.5 million dollars in grants to support energy efficiency projects from nine organizations across the state. That includes Dayton Live in Montgomery County. It will receive over $2.2 million dollars for upgrades to its venues. This includes building automations upgrades, replacing a chiller and wintergarden light fixtures, and replacing work lights with LED lighting. These updates are expected to yield an annual utility savings of about 15%.

    Inside of the Young’s Jersey Dairy in Yellow Springs, shelves of cheese curds dripped excess moisture onto the floor. The CEO of Young’s Jersey Dairy, Dan Young, pointed to a massive silver vat imported from the Netherlands filled with the uncut curds, ready to be converted into a variety of cheeses. “So all the cheeses are going to start the same way when we're making it. … We start off putting the milk, the raw milk, unpasteurized milk into our vat,” he said.

The initiative is committed to getting locals “in the know” and out to eat at some of these unique, immigrant-owned restaurants. It has been operating in the Gem City since October 2019 and has grown in popularity since its start. Ethnosh was founded in Greensboro, North Carolina, in 2015 by Donovan McKnight and his Colombian-born wife, Alex.
