Srilanka, March 21 -- Sri Lanka is experiencing a rapid spread of Chikungunya, a mosquito-borne viral disease, with cases reported from various parts of the country. Speaking to Daily Mirror, Consultant Physician Dr Achala Balasuriya said "Chikungunya is spread through the bite of infected Aedes mosquitoes, primarily Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus. These mosquitoes become infected when they bite a person who already has the virus.

Srilanka, March 21 -- The nomination of a German woman who was set to contest the upcoming Local Government Elections in the Matale District has been rejected. Area Election Officer Asiri Eranga told the Daily Mirror that the nomination was disqualified after officials found discrepancies in the birth certificate submitted by the candidate. Srilanka, March 21 -- Nearly 425 nomination papers have been rejected in this year's local government election nominations. According to Commissioner General of Elections Saman Sri Ratnayake, nominations were accepted in 25 districts from March 17 to 12 noon on March 20. "A total of 2,900 groups submitted nominations for 336 local government bodies. Of these, around 2,260 groups were nominated by political parties," he said.
