Sri Lanka, May 21 -- Over 4,600 Sri Lankan health professionals have migrated overseas between 2022 and 2025, Health Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa revealed during his address at the 78th annual World Health Assembly (WHA78) of the World Health Organization (WHO). Speaking before delegates from across the world, Minister Jayatissa said that this includes 726 consultants, 1,116 medical officers and nearly 2,800 nursing officers.

Srilanka, May 14 -- Amid a slight increase in chickenpox cases, the varicella vaccine that helps prevent the disease is currently out of stock at hospitals, the Daily Mirror learns. When the Daily Mirror inquired at leading private hospitals, officials confirmed that the vaccine is unavailable. The cost of the vaccine ranges from Rs 7,500 to Rs 9,500. According to health authorities, the vaccine is also not available at government hospitals.

With both diseases spreading fast due to the rainy season, they urge people to seek medical help early.
