OnePlus surprised users earlier this year when it announced that it doesn't plan to launch any foldables in the near future, while Oppo launched the Find N5 as the successor to the Oppo Find N3 (also known as the OnePlus Open globally). The company didn't announce a clamshell-style foldable at its previous launch event, and reports preceding the launch of the Oppo Find N5 even indicated that the company may have stopped all work on foldables altogether — these claims were soon disproved.

Samsung is having a busy 2025, and it is turning out to be a year with noteworthy product releases. The brand's Galaxy S25 Ultra model got a refreshed design, this was followed up by the recent launch of its Galaxy S25 Edge. But it appears that Samsung has more up its sleeves, as its Galaxy Z Fold 7 book-style foldable is set to get big upgrades this year. A new foldable model is also said to be in the works, and it could debut as tri-fold smartphone.

Samsung's Galaxy Z lineup this year is going to be interesting for a variety of reasons. Slated for a July launch, there's the bigger, book-style Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 that is tipped to get plenty of hardware upgrades along with a bigger display and a thinner design. Next, we have the Galaxy Z Flip 7, which is said to get a smaller share of design updates. Reports also hint at the existence of a Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE model, which will be an affordable clamshell much like the Motorola Razr 50.

Apple's upcoming foldable iPhone, now said to be a larger book-style device, is gradually starting to take shape. Months into the numerous rumours, there was some confusion about which design approach Apple would take for its first foldable. However, recent notes from analysts and leaks have begun to suggest at a book-style design. A recent leak suggested that Apple has moved forward with its choice of a near crease-free display with Samsung being its sole supplier.

Carl Pei and his technology brand Nothing are both known for creating hype, followed by some controversy. More recently, all the hype around Nothing's latest mid-range smartphones, the Phone 3a and Phone 3a Pro, was followed by many fans and users complaining about the brand's use of a slower UFS 2.2 storage. CEO of Nothing, Pei, was quick to respond that users should “stop complaining” however, that did not seem enough to silence online critics.
