SUMTER COUNTY, S.C. — A father is dead after jumping into the Santee River to rescue two of his children who had fallen overboard, according to the Sumter County Coroner’s Office. The incident happened around 1:30 p.m. Thursday near Pack’s Landing, authorities said. “That's something that a 9, 7, and a 3-year-old is never gonna forget,” Sumter County Coroner Robbie Baker said. Baker said the 3-year-old boy accidentally fell overboard into the river while wearing a life jacket.
