1. IntroductionPneumatic artificial muscles (PAMs) differ from more conventional actuators due to the inherently compliant behaviour and nonlinear dynamics arising from their construction of flexible materials and actuation method. These properties make them desirable for applications such as medical robotics in rehabilitation scenarios and prosthetics as they more closely mimic biological muscle than conventional actuators.
