    SINGAPORE – A 58-year-old man was arrested after his younger brother was found dead in a Housing Board flat in Boon Lay on March 11. The 56-year-old man was found lying motionless in an 11th-floor unit at Block 187 Boon Lay Avenue, and was pronounced dead at the scene. The police said they received a call for assistance at about 11.35am. Preliminary investigations showed that both parties are known to each other. The Straits Times understands the pair are brothers.

    SINGAPORE – Those planning to stay out late on Jan 28, the eve of Chinese New Year, will have more transport options, with SBS Transit offering later services on selected MRT lines and bus routes. Train services on the Downtown and North-East lines as well as on the Sengkang-Punggol LRT systems will be extended by about two hours and 15 minutes, SBS Transit said on Jan 17. Nineteen of its bus services will also run later at their respective bus interchanges.

    SINGAPORE – Weekly public visits to fire stations will be suspended on Jan 18, the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said. In a Facebook post on Jan 16, SCDF said the temporary closures are due to operational reasons, without elaborating. It added that the weekly visits will resume on Jan 25. Those who have made bookings will be contacted for a change in schedule. “We apologise for any inconvenience caused,” SCDF said.

    SINGAPORE – The authorities seized over $169,000 worth of drugs from a Malaysia-registered motorcycle arriving at Woodlands Checkpoint on Jan 14. The amount of cannabis, Ice and Ermin-5 tablets seized by the Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) could feed the addiction of 970 abusers for a week, said CNB and Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) in a joint statement on Jan 16. ICA officers checked the motorcycle ridden by a 21-year-old Malaysian man in the morning of Jan 14.
