I can see myself up there doing it. So I used to dance. So that’s why I had to come and see it, because they’re so beautiful. It makes me want to get up there. I did ballet, I did tap, I did ballroom,” Ms. Kelley shared.

CHICAGO—Arny Granat has 39 Broadway productions under his belt. On May 4, he and Irene Michaels, a singer, performer, and dancer, saw Shen Yun Performing Arts at the Civic Opera House. “It’s different from [what] most American audiences see. I think that it catches the people’s imagination. ... It’s beautiful, very artistic, very professional, and awesome,” Mr. Granat said. Shen Yun is based in New York, and its mission is to revive 5,000 years of Chinese civilization.

ROSEMONT, Ill.—Charity Grayson had planned to bring her husband, Steve Starcovich, to see Shen Yun Performing Arts for his birthday. Two weeks before the performing arts company would be at the Rosemont Theatre, Mr. Starcovich had a stroke, and he is now recovering, Ms. Grayson explained. The couple’s decision to see Shen Yun felt encouraging and healing. “It’s always like coming back to your faith and hope and the light,” Ms. Grayson said after the performance on April 25.
