    A US federal court has blocked US President Donald Trump’s global reciprocal trade tariffs from taking effect. The US Court of International Trade has ruled that he overstepped his authority when he imposed the tariffs on nearly every country. The three-judge panel ruled that Trump overstepped his powers granted by the 1977 International Emergency Economic Powers Act, after signing an Executive Order invoking its authority to increase the country’s competitive edge.

    Renowned Kenyan author and academic Ngũgĩ wa Thiong’o has died at the age of 87. His daughter, Wanjiku Wa Ngũgĩ , confirmed his death in Atlanta, Georgia, yesterday. Ngũgĩ was known for his advocacy for African languages and cultures, often calling on Africans to reclaim their heritage through language. His activism led to imprisonment, beatings, and a ban on his work in Kenya. He left the country in the 1970s and later settled in California.
