    A video by Kannada content creator Sameer MD on February 27, 2025, has reignited public interest in the Sowjanya rape and murder case, shedding light once again on the tragic events that unfolded in Karnataka’s Ujire. Sowjanya, a second-year Pre-University student of the Sri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara College, went missing on October 9, 2012 and was found dead the next day near the Nethravathi river, her hands bound to a tree with her shawl.

    The Karnataka High Court on Friday, January 17, temporarily restrained a trial court from framing charges against Janata Dal (Secular) leader HD Revanna, who is accused of abducting a woman allegedly raped by his son. Justice M Nagaprasanna, while issuing the order, allowed the special court in Bengaluru to continue hearing arguments in the case but barred it from framing charges until January 30. The High Court is set to hear Revanna’s quashing petition on the same date.
