ST. LOUIS, Mo. (First Alert 4) - The City of St. Louis ended May with the fewest number of homicides in more than a decade, which pointed to progress from SLMPD in reducing crime in the city. Police investigated 55 homicides so far this year through the end of May, which is the lowest since 2014. Chief Robert Tracy said its a combination of community policing, their CompStat methodology, and using technology to their advantage.

ST. LOUIS (First Alert 4) - After decades of use, Kingshighway is getting a revamp. But it’s also exposing some serious growing pains. Parts of Kingshighway across the city already have or will soon see construction. The major thoroughfare is getting repaved from Florissant to Gravois. There will also be traffic calming measures added to slow down vehicles, protect pedestrians and calm traffic. John Parker Jr.’s family has owned O’Connell’s Pub in the city for more than 60 years.

ST. LOUIS, Mo. (First Alert 4) - The U.S. Census Bureau has released its 2024 city population estimates. Data showed St. Louis City led the state in population decline, with Chesterfield, Maryland Heights, and Ballwin also being within the top 10 cities in the state losing residents. Chesterfield City Administrator Mike Geisel said less kids per household is partially to blame for the drop in population.

ST. LOUIS, Mo. (First Alert 4) - Community volunteers continue to rally around those who have been impacted by the May 16 tornado. Derrick Porter said walking the streets after the tornado and seeing the devastation broke him. “I ain’t never seen my city like this. Sometimes it takes certain things like this to bring solidarity amongst the people who have been at war with themselves and their community for a long time,” Porter said.

ST. LOUIS, Mo. (First Alert 4) - Streets in the West End neighborhood are filled with debris, bricks on the ground and homes crumbling. For the last two decades, Bobbie White has taken pride in her West End home. “Destruction. My house was destroyed. My son’s house was destroyed,” White said. White has a yellow sticker taped to her door to warn her to be careful inside. “I haven’t worked 51 years for nothing,” White said. From White’s backyard, you can see her son’s home one block away.
