The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) has banned the extradition of Afgan Sadigov, an Azerbaijani journalist detained in Georgia pending his extradition to Azerbaijan. Following the decision, the journalist ended his hunger strike after 161 days. The decision came on 27 February, according to local rights group Social Justice Centre (SJC), which said the following day that the ECHR’s final ruling on the case ‘could take years’.

According to official results announced by Abkhazia’s Central Election Committee (CEC) on Sunday, former Vice President Badra Gunba has won the run-off presidential election, securing 54.7% of the vote and besting his competitor, opposition leader Adgur Ardzinba. The CEC reported that voter turnout on 1 March was around 70%, with just over 100,000 voters participating, a figure that represented an increase of 1,000 voters from the first round.

Fatima Movlamli, an independent Azerbaijani journalist, has been arrested as a part of the ongoing Meydan TV case. She is the tenth journalist to be detained on charges of smuggling. The pro-government media outlet Oxu.az reported on Friday morning that Movlamli would be brought to court based on a submission by the investigative body working on the Meydan TV case. Shortly after, the Internal Affairs Ministry’s press service confirmed her arrest to local media.
