Two BJP-ruled states issued strikingly similar massive power tenders that limit competition and favour #AdaniGroup. The Group has bagged one tender where suggestions by potential bidders to improve competition were ignored. Adani is frontrunner for the second tender too. When @reporters_co ran a plagiarism check on the two tenders, we found a 83% match! Major differences were in names of the govt-owned firms and details like capacity needed.

But PM AASHA isn't the only one indicative of Modi govt's billboard governance. Nor is the problem restricted to solely to the Agriculture Ministry. After coming to power in 2019, the Modi govt launched a pension scheme for small shopkeepers and traders, named Pradhan Mantri Karam Yogi Maan Dhan Yojana. In 2019, the govt promised to spend Rs 750 crore on the scheme. But spent only Rs 155 crore. By 2024, the govt's promised spending for the year came down to only Rs 3 crore.

New Delhi: A coal-rich mine block inside a dense forest, unlocked for auction following lobbying by an association of private power industry players over-riding the environment ministry’s objection, has been awarded to Adani Group. Coal Ministry had defied the environment ministry and vetoed its own expert body’s advice, to open up the Mara II Mahan coal block in Madhya Pradesh for mining after lobbying by the association, of which Adani is a member, The Collective reported in October last.

New Delhi: The Union government illegally denied West Bengal the right to bid for the 83-million-tonne Sarisatolli coal block in the first auction of coal mine blocks in 2015, reveal documents reviewed by The Reporters’ Collective. This helped a private company collude to rig the auctions of the coal block. When caught in the act by the government’s auditor, the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG), the government acknowledged West Bengal had been eligible to bid.

That's all on the auction side. Lets look at the second route: direct allotment. Under its coal law, the Modi gov't sneakily snuck in a provision that allowed it to allocate coal mines without auction to gov't-owned firms. While the general perception is that most mines are auctioned, it's not the case. Majority of mines have been allocated under this route, shows an analysis by researcher @gpriyanshu based on Coal Ministry data.
