1 Introduction Glucocorticoids (known as cortisol in humans and primates, and corticosterone in rodents) are essential steroid hormones that regulate various physiological processes such as development and metabolism.[1] Abnormal glucocorticoid levels can lead to serious metabolic dysfunctions, such as Cushing's syndrome caused by excess glucocorticoid activity.
