Exasperated Notting Hill residents have painted the façades of their houses black to deter “rude” tourists from posing for pictures, climbing onto properties, littering and making a racket. Hordes of tourists swarm to Lancaster Road, in west London, a brightly coloured Victorian terrace just metres from Portobello Road Market that is often mistaken for the location of Notting Hill, the smash hit 1999 Richard Curtis film starring Hugh Grant and Julia Roberts.

The “dictatorial” leadership at a once thriving village church is said to have caused a mass exodus, leaving it with a dwindling congregation and parishioners at boiling point. Flyers attacking the Rev Janine Arnott, rector of St Oswald’s church, in the picturesque village of Malpas in Cheshire, were stuck with permanent adhesive around the grounds of Chester Cathedral during Easter. The bishop of Chester, the Right Rev Mark Tanner, was also criticised in the flyers.
