Former Kiambu governor Ferdinand Waititu has been ordered to pay a Sh53.5 million fine or spend 12 years in jail after he was found guilty of corruption related charges. The former governor was on Thursday ordered to pay the amount after he was convicted of graft in relation to a Sh588 million road tender. He had been convicted alongside his wife Sudan Wangari, who was also ordered to pay Sh500,000 or spend one year behind bars.

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission on Thursday arrested Bomet governor Hillary Barchok over allegations of theft of public funds and conflict of interest. Governor Barchok was arrested during a morning raid on his residence in Bomet by EACC detectives which said that it is investigating alleged corruption in his administration. Prof Barchok is the first governor in President William Ruto’s Rift Valley backyard to be arrested by the EACC since the August 2022 general elections.

The Bill introduces key definitions, including startup, accelerator, incubation program, and startup ecosystem players. It also designates the Cabinet Secretary responsible for micro, small, and medium enterprises to oversee implementation.

Nominated Senator Gloria Orwoba has suffered a major blow after the High Court upheld a decision made by the Senate last year to suspend her from participating in Parliamentary activities. The nominated senator, who was suspended by the House in September last year for a period of six months, had been accused of gross misconduct.
