An Orlando man was sentenced to 50 years in prison Thursday for the deadly road rage shooting of a man he said cut him off in traffic then refused to move when a signal light turned green. Nicholas Carrasquillo was found guilty in March after a three-day trial on charges of second-degree murder and shooting at, within or into an occupied vehicle for the killing of 30-year-old David Sligh on Jan. 22, 2024. The sentence was announced in a news release by the Orange-Osceola State Attorney’s Office.

A Sanford man police said inappropriately touched two underage girls and sexually assaulted one of them when he was pastor at a local church was arrested Wednesday in Virginia. Yersson David Solarte Basto, 33, formerly of Ipul Pentecostal Church in Sanford, was taken into custody on charges of sexual battery and lewd and lascivious molestation by the Prince William County Police Department, according to a Thursday news release from the Sanford Police Department.

An Orange County father was arrested Monday on murder and child abuse charges in his infant daughter’s death. Darius Stephone Nichols, 20, was taken into custody by the Orange County Sheriff’s Office on charges of first-degree murder and aggravated child abuse in the death of his 3-month-old daughter, Nova, the agency announced in an X post Tuesday. “In her short life, baby Nova suffered horrific abuse and trauma,” the Sheriff’s Office said in the post.

Three Osceola High School students were injured early Sunday after a shootout at a party in Davenport attended by more than 100 people, a gathering police think might have been a post-prom celebration, according to the Polk County Sheriff's Office. The three victims were in a car when the shooting started and were not involved in whatever led to gunfire, said Sheriff Grady Judd at a Monday news conference.
