A law firm that represents survivors of sexual abuse sued the Diocese of Orlando on Friday and planned to reveal "compelling and concrete new information" to back allegations that a Catholic priest murdered in Brevard County last year had sexually molested boys. The lawsuit seeks "not less than $25 million" in damages from the diocese for alleged negligence "arising from the sexual abuse of a child" by Father Robert "Bob" Hoeffner, 76, who was shot to death Jan. 28, 2024, in his Palm Bay home.

A man wielding a BB gun resembling a rifle was shot Thursday by Kissimmee police officers and is in stable condition at a hospital. The shooting occurred around 1:30 p.m. at the 4300 block of West Vine Street in Kissimmee and involved officers who responded to the scene after receiving a 911 call about a man with a rifle, Kissimmee Police Chief Charles Broadway said at a news conference hours after the shooting. Three officers were on scene and at least one fired his weapon.

A U.S. Postal Service worker in Orlando was sentenced to more than 5 years in prison Wednesday for distributing fentanyl disguised as pharmaceutical pills and using drug money to buy multiple sports cars. Orlando Rosa Rodriguez, 59, was given the sentence of five years and 10 months on charges of conspiracy to distribute fentanyl and money laundering, according to a news release from the U.S. Department of Justice.

An Osceola County youth pastor arrested and accused of sexually abusing two girls in his foster care faces two dozen sexual battery charges. Daniel Ryan Lamppin, 40, was taken into custody Tuesday by the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office and transported to the Osceola County Jail where he remains. During a press conference later that day, Sheriff Marcos Lopez said Lamppin was a youth pastor at Connection Church, between Kissimmee and St. Cloud on Generation Point.

A witness to the fatal Osceola shooting of a Checkers' customer by an employee last week told investigators the encounter may have stemmed from a dispute involving mayonnaise packets, court records show. Elijah Travis Mackey, 23, was arrested Thursday on a first-degree murder charge in the May 21 shooting of customer Wesley Robertson at the West Irlo Bronson Memorial Highway restaurant, according to a news release from the Osceola County Sheriff's Office.
