OPINION: How have the far-left policies of the Biden administration affected American diplomacy? At a recent hearing of the House Foreign Affairs Committee’s accountability subcommittee, I had a chance to answer this question for Congress — and the news isn’t good. For centuries, immigrants came to America to make their fortunes through hard work. While they often relied on existing ethnic or faith communities for help finding housing and jobs, they had no expectation that the federal government would provide them with the basics of life. It went against the grain of American values that anyone newly arrived would immediately depend on the state for their needs.

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles! At a congressional hearing last week, National Public Radio (NPR)’s CEO Katherine Maher opened with this: "I welcome the opportunity to discuss the essential role of public media in bringing unbiased, nonpartisan, fact-based reporting to Americans."I suspect Maher did not welcome the opportunity at all — she was on the hot seat.

Last week, President Donald Trump began keeping yet another of his promises—this time, to deport foreign nationals who support terrorism. On Wednesday, the U.S. State Department “revoked the first visa of an alien who was previously cited for criminal behavior in connection with Hamas-supporting disruptions,” a department official told Fox News. “This individual was a university student.

The mayors of Boston, Chicago, Denver, and New York were grilled at a House Oversight Committee hearing on Wednesday over their “sanctuary” policies that encourage illegal immigrants to live in their cities, obtain certain government benefits, and remain in the U.S. illegally. Ideally, a hearing would see members of Congress asking questions of witnesses who can shed light on a topic for oversight purposes or to better inform them in drafting laws. Everyone would leave a little wiser.
