AT least nine would-be migrants were left dead in the early hours of Saturday morning after their boat capsized during an attempted rescue off the coast of the Canary Islands. Some 48 more migrants were missing after the incident, which could prove to be the deadliest seen in the 30 years that such crossings have been a regular occurrence. Rescue services did, however, manage to save 27 of the total 84 migrants who were on the boat.

A JUDGE in the American state of Florida has denied bail to David Knezevich for a second time, as the court proceedings against the Serbian native on the suspicion that he kidnapped and possibly murdered his wife Ana Knezevich in Madrid continue. Judge Edwin Torres ruled on Monday that there is ‘ample evidence’ to support the kidnapping case against the 36-year-old, according to a report in the Miami Herald.

DOMESTIC tourism in Spain saw a massive boom after the coronavirus pandemic, as Spaniards sought to catch up on lost time due to lockdowns and travel restrictions, and also splurge the savings they had accrued during the global health crisis. But now trends appear to be returning to pre-pandemic patterns, with figures showing that the number of domestic tourists in the first seven months of the year actually fell compared to the same period a year before.
