The Tour de Fer has proved very popular with us too, with the Tour de Fer 30 getting a rare five stars in 2021. The Tour de Fer 20 is a little further down the range, but comes with loads more extras than you’d expect for £1,499 – including racks, mudguards, a kickstand and a trio of bottle cages.

Since then the drop-bar Zydeco has morphed somewhat inevitably into a gravel bike, or what Cinelli calls "a beloved gravel icon". Cinelli says it has transformed this Zydeco "into the ultimate flat-bar and front-rack go everywhere city bike… designed to withstand the demands of the most intense urban commuting".

Much of the Basso’s componentry comes courtesy of Microtech, which is owned by the Italian Basso company. At £2,999, the Basso Venta R is a pound cheaper than the Specialized Roubaix SL8 Sport I tested it alongside.
