There is a global rise in growth among urban slum populations in the world, and cities remain the epicentre of the global HIV pandemic. Subnational variation in HIV burden has been well documented with some cities faring better than others. There is a demonstrated link between structural inequalities such as inequalities in education, housing and income, and inequalities in health outcomes.
