The Crane School District governing board has decided to request voters for the renewal of a $1.5 million District Additional Assistance (DAA) override that increases the district's annual budget. Crane has relied on a voter-approved DAA override the past seven years to increase its capital budget, which pertains to facilities, infrastructure and equipment.

School's out for the summer, but the kitchens are not, thanks to the U.S. Department of Agriculture. About 30 million children participate in USDA breakfast and lunch programs throughout the year, and summer vacation can present a major barrier for consistently access to healthy meals. To help bridge that gap, the USDA's Food and Nutrition Service works with states and other partners to offer free breakfast and lunch for kids throughout the summer.

As federal funding wavers for programs across departments, fields and disciplines, learning institutions have had to keep an extra watchful eye on how cuts may impact them. With many programs serving communities in Yuma and La Paz, Arizona Western College has been tracking the changes and provided an update to its Matador community via email today, June 5. According to AWC President Dr. Daniel Corr, there are five main changes worth note. 1. Upward Bound programs are set for renewal in the fall.

After considering a possible change in attendance boundaries during its May regular meeting, the Yuma School District One governing board has decided to table the action for the time being. โThe boundary changes has been pulled back so weโre not doing any changes to boundaries, any changes to schools,โ Board President Keith Ware said.

LOS ANGELES โ The Gadsden Elementary School District recently represented Yuma County in a national conversation on STEM education. District Governing Board Member and San Luis Vice Mayor Tadeo De La Hoya joined the National Association of Latino and Appointed Officials (NALEO) Educational Fund and a cohort of more than 40 education policymakers from across the U.S. for a NALEO Policy Institute in early May.
