In addition to blue lights and safety escorts, the JMU Police Department (JMU PD) introduced a new safety app, JMU Shield, to its campus safety toolbox this semester. The new app consolidates access to resources such as an area to contact emergency personnel, quick links to support resources like the Title IX office and OSARP, “take action” guidelines regarding different emergencies and a campus map.

Editor’s note: This review contains spoilers. The people of Barkley Cove, North Carolina, thought they knew all about “the Marsh Girl.” I did too while reading “Where the Crawdads Sing.” They were wrong, and so was I — at least until the final chapter. Written in 2018 by naturalist and zoologist Delia Owens, “Where the Crawdads Sing” follows the life of Kya Clark, a girl who’s lived in the North Carolina marshes since being abandoned by her family at a young age.

For local artist and songwriter Matthew Mozingo (’23), music is the means through which he conveys his worldview. “Music to me is a form of expression. It’s a form of love. It’s a form of connection,” Mozingo said.
