What was my first break in the world of Super Heroes? It wasn’t Marvel Comics Iceman, my first comic ever that got mentioned in the news back in the day. It wasn’t my follow up mini series Spider-Man: Legend of the Spider-Clan, or Human Torch, or Venom, or New Warriors, or any of the things I’ve done at Marvel over the last 23 years. Nope, for that we have to go back…WAY BACK. Over 30 years ago, 12 year old Skottie was on Summer Divorce Vacation.

It was probably 1997-98 (I was 19) when I attend a small comic show in Johnson City, TN. I lived in a Bristol, TN at the time and it was a short 30 minute drive to the hotel ballroom it was being held in. It was your typical small comic show of mostly toy dealers and retailers selling back issues. I had been to a few before and loved hunting down Spawn figures. (Which were a brand new thing back then.) This particular show did have something the others hadn’t… a few professional artists.

Sometimes a beloved band just… well drops off your radar. And one such band for me is The Hives. And with good reason, as they haven’t released a new LP in over a decade, with Les Hives being their last offering. Well, the good news for me and others is that they are back and touring with the Arctic Monkeys before, I hope, setting out on a tour to support their new forthcoming album, The Death Of Randy Fitzsimmons, out this summer.
