LUVERNE — Edgerton/Southwest Minnesota Christian grabbed the lead and never looked back in an 11-1 drubbing of Luverne in five innings Friday. In a game that was rescheduled from April 28 due to weather, the Flying Dutchmen scored once in the top of the first and then left two Cardinals in scoring position in the bottom of the inning to help set an early tone. They then opened an 8-0 lead through two and a half innings, scoring runs on both passed balls and through runs batted in.

WORTHINGTON — This past week of the softball season has come against some tough competition for Worthington High School. WHS (5-8) has dropped its last four games, including an 11-1 loss to New Ulm at Centennial Fields Thursday. After notching three-straight wins, the Trojans lost their first game to New Ulm, undefeated at the time, on April 30.

JACKSON — Both the Worthington and Pipestone Area teams met in Jackson for a boys and girls golf triangular Thursday. The WHS Trojan boys team placed third with a combined score of 187, 10 strokes behind winner Jackson County Central and eight behind Pipestone. In the individual scores, Pipestone’s Matt Debates won after shooting a 2-over-par 39. JCC’s Kyler Thier was second at 4 over and Trojan Spenser Nickel tied for third at 6 over with JCC teammates Dylan Hilpipre and Tavin Miller.

FAIRMONT — 10 track and field gathered at the Bob Bank Track in Fairmont Tuesday for the annual Section 2AA True Team meet. Worthington’s boys team placed sixth with 371 points. First place went to Belle Plaine with 469 points, Marshall took second with 461.5 points and Fairmont was third with 454.5 points. Rounding out the top five were Jordan in fourth (430.5) and St. Peter fifth (378.5). The Trojans saw plenty of top 10 finishes and personal records set individually.

SLAYTON — Murray County Central senior Dylan Kluis is this week’s Peak Performer. Kluis is a member of the MCC baseball team where he pitches and plays first base. This season, he is batting 0.636 on 21 hits with 18 runs batted in and he also has 42 strikeouts in 24 innings pitched while leading the Rebels to a 10-1 record. After high school, Kluis plans to attend Ridgewater College in Willmar where he’ll major in farm operations management and continue his baseball career.
