Pine sawflies (Hymenoptera: Diprionidae) are pests of natural, ornamental, and commercial pine trees and other conifers, which are grown for timber, turpentine, and other byproducts, and for ornamental sale and Christmas trees (Welch 1991, Darr et al. 2022). Despite the name, sawflies are not flies—rather, they are relatives of ants, bees, and wasps that use saw-like ovipositors to lay their eggs in pine needles.
