INTRODUCTION The influenza virus belongs to the family Orthomyxoviridae and contains negative-sense, single-stranded segmented RNA. Influenza is highly contagious and mainly spreads through respiratory secretions (Influenza|CDC Yellow Book 2024, n.d.). Every year, large numbers of people in the population are infected by influenza viruses (Knipe & Peter, 2013). Surveillance remains a fundamental tool for monitoring the circulating virus.
