Gun violence and mass shootings remain serious issues facing the Latinx community. According to the Giffords Law Center, more than 14 Latinxs die from gun violence per day and 5,300 Latinxs per year, with gun violence against the community double what it was in 2014. Even within the Latinx community, Latina changemakers are often forgotten and overlooked by dominant patriarchal narratives. That’s why we decided to put together a round-up of Latinas who have made history but have often gone under-appreciated and under-recognized by the history books and, in many cases, by our own communities.

lowkey i think a poem is a lot like a novel in that just like a protagonist needs to want something, so does the speaker of your poem. there should be a want or even a don’t-want for something. otherwise what is the goal? who are you writing this for?
