One of my favorite apartment features is my unusually high ceilings and how they make each room feel so spacious and airy. At the same time, it’s a perk that comes with its quirks. For instance, my top cabinets are so tall that they’re totally out of reach until I climb up on a teetering stool.

Each morning I get out of bed, walk to my kitchen, open my freezer, and pluck a single ice cube from my favorite ice tray. That ice cube comes with me to the bathroom, where I proceed to rub it all over my face for about 30 seconds. When summer rolls around, there is nothing that quenches my thirst quite like an ice-cold beverage. Whether it’s cold brew, coconut water (with a splash of lime juice!), my favorite Culture Pop (Wild Berries is the best, hands-down), or some good old-fashioned water, it all tastes so much better when it’s on ice.
