The University of Edinburgh has launched a supercomputing cluster installed with the largest AI chip ever built. Operated by the EPCC, the supercomputing centre at the university and part of the Edinburgh International Data Facility, the cluster is made up of four Cerebras CS-3, third generation wafer scale engine processors, making it the largest in Europe.

An online suicide forum is under investigation by Ofcom for failing to comply with the Online Safety Act (OSA). The probe marks the first investigation by the communications watchdog under the new digital safety laws. The act, which came into force last month, requires platforms to tackle illegal content or risk being fined up to £18m or 10 per cent of their global revenue. In “the most serious cases”, platforms could be blocked in the UK.

More than 40 Labour MPs have urged the government to introduce digital IDs in a bid to “get a grip” on illegal migration. The MPs argue the system would help the government tackle “off the books employment” and “modern slavery”, as well as improve access to public services. The policy, backed by three of Labour's backbench groups — the Labour Growth Group, the Red Wall Group and the Blue Labour group – was first proposed by former prime minister Tony Blairin 2006.
