The construction of an iron ore processing plant in Taita Taveta county has received a major boost after the community agreed to cede a portion of land for the facility. Members of Mbololo community in Voi on Monday unanimously agreed to set aside a portion of Mbulia community land for the multibillion-shilling iron smelting plant. Business mogul Narendra Guru, the founder and chairman of the Devki Group of Companies, has already expressed interest to put up the plant in the area.

Taita Taveta: Police keep off as Voi youth protest against Finance Bill

Police officers were conspicuously missing in Voi town, Taita Taveta as youth took to the streets to oppose the Finance Bill, 2024. The Gen-Z-led anti-tax protests were staged in all the streets with chants against local legislators who voted in favour of the Bill. The youth camped outside a wholesale joint owned by a legislator who voted to support the controversial Bill last Thursday. Hundreds of anti-tax demonstrators also blocked the busy Mombasa Nairobi highway at Caltex junction in Voi.
