    The Worcester Art Museum announced the opening date for new permanent galleries for its arms and armor collection: one of the largest of its kind in America. The galleries will open to the public on Nov. 22 after more than a decade of planning, fundraising and construction. The newly designed, 5,000-square-foot space will display over 1,000 objects, including swords, helmets and full suits of armor. The museum acquired the collection in 2014 after the nearby Higgins Armory ended museum operations.

    The Institute of Contemporary Art in Boston announced a new annual award to recognize women artists. World-renowned multimedia artist and Boston native Sarah Sze will receive the inaugural award and the associated $100,000 prize. “In Greek, the word meraki means to pour your soul into something,” said ICA Director Jill Medvedow, who announced plans to step down last year.

    It’s a rock opera underworld, and Sir Babygirl stars as Persephone in a new, original play premiering this weekend. The story begins with Persephone as she wakes up on her last day in Hades, which, in this twist on the classic myth, includes a nightly stage show that she performs as part of her netherworld residency. Plucked arpeggios and insane headlines emanating from the radio establish a tone that blends elements of classic Broadway musicals and theater of the absurd.
