The National Weather Service will soon resume translating weather alerts for non-native English speakers. This comes after a contract lapse with Lilt, an artificial intelligence company, earlier this year in April. Without these translations, non-native English speakers could miss crucial warnings for severe weather events like tornadoes, hurricanes or tsunamis. The alerts were previously translated into Spanish, Chinese, Vietnamese, French and Samoan.

A fire broke out on a barge at the Lemon Bay Aquatic Preserve, right off the coast of Don Pedro Island. The fire was called in around 5:30 a.m. Friday. The blaze ignited wooden planks and pilings being stored on the barge's deck. Englewood Fire confirmed that there were no injuries and no buildings were damaged. No one was on the barge at the time. However, the barge was about 100 feet from a home. Englewood fire crews were on the scene to manage the aftermath of the incident.

A firefighter is recovering from heat exhaustion after battling a brush fire in Charlotte County. The fire, which investigators said began on Sunday due to a lawnmower backfiring on an empty lot, quickly spread to 15 acres because of dry and windy conditions.
