According to the WHO (2020), mosquito-borne diseases such as malaria, dengue, chikungunya and Zika are responsible for more than 700,000 deaths. As the diseases are transmitted by mosquito vectors, with the pathogen being transmitted by a specific mosquito (e.g., the malaria parasite Plasmodium from an infected Anopheles mosquito), it was crucial for a surveillance program to understand the risk factors of the diseases in the population.
