    A chip shop owner whose flood-plagued business has been left uninsurable says he may be forced to close down. Abdul Chowdry's shop on Mill Street, Pontypridd, was hit when Storm Bert caused flooding in the town last Sunday. He said he had to downsize after Storm Dennis, in February 2020, and was left unable to sell his business. Other shop owners on Mill Street in the Rhondda Cynon Taf town have said they will have to pay out of their own pockets to recover from the damage caused by Storm Bert.

    Shop workers are calling for the same protection as NHS staff. It comes after figures from retail trade union Usdaw showed 69% had experienced verbal abuse, 45% have been threatened by a customer and 17% have been assaulted. Crian Williams, 46, has worked in retail for more than two decades and says she has been kicked and spat on. Crian, from Ebbw Vale, said: "I was on a night shift when a young woman, clearly inebriated, came into the store.

    A 50p with an Atlantic salmon on one side and the King’s portrait on the other is the rarest such coin in circulation, says the Royal Mint. It has replaced the Kew Gardens coing, which had topped the 50p charts of collectibles for the past 15 years. The official maker of British coins, which is based in Llantrisant, Rhondda Cynon Taf, has published its 2023 mintage figures for UK coins in circulation.
