There the team finished first against Douglas and the Buffalo junior varsity team in points, and won six of the nine individual events as well as two of the three relay events.

By Sonja Karp, NLJ Sports Editor The Lady Dogie wrestlers competed in a huge, highly competitive tournament in Moorcroft Friday and Saturday, where three of head coach Shaide Bowthorpe’s crew brought home hardware and three more came one match short of doing so. “It wasn’t our best weekend, but we still had some girls place, which was good,” Bowthorpe said.

By Sonja Karp, NLJ Sports Editor The Lady Dogie wrestlers competed in nine matches over two days last weekend, finishing fifth out of 10 teams — and were top three among Wyoming schools — at the Jerry Quinlan Memorial Tournament in Casper on Friday and Saturday. Head coach Shaide Bowthorpe’s squad soundly defeated Wright, Kelly Walsh, Douglas and Thunder Basin on Friday as well as Natrona on Saturday. They lost to Sheridan on Friday and Moffat Co., Colorado, Sturgis and Pinedale on Saturday.

By Sonja Karp, NLJ Sports Editor The other night, I was talking with my daughter, Bailey, who served a brief stint as assistant Lady Dogie basketball coach last season, and we got on the subject of what makes a winning team. In that convo, Bailey said something that really brought home the key to achieving that success when she said that you have to “pour the foundation before you can put up the walls.”It’s such a simple idea, but one that truly illustrates what winning teams do.

Head coach Doug Scribner was beyond pleased with how his small team made waves in Cody and Powell over the weekend, given that new qualifying times were earned in four different events and the 200 Freestyle Relay team clocked the fastest time posted by a Dogie team in nearly two decades.

By Sonja Karp, NLJ Sports Editor The Dogie Swim team was down from seven to two on Dec. 28, as head coach Doug Scribner took his sons Sam and Lucas to Gillette to participate in the Reindeer Holiday Open. The remaining team members were busy with family holiday plans, however, it worked out well for the Scribners given that Sam and Lucas missed out on the last weekend of competition before the Christmas break due to conflicts with scheduling from another school activity.

This year I have been chomping at the bit to get the tree up and the rest of my decorations out, but I am a firm believer in giving Thanksgiving the respect it’s due. Though the day has passed, the reasons to be thankful continue far beyond that one day. I believe in being mindful of all of the blessings that have been bestowed upon me, always, but it is always beneficial to actually name them often.
