Two Carlow men who attacked a man after an evening of heavy drinking and drug taking will be sentenced later. Philip Moore (41) formerly of Rathellen, Leighlinbridge, Carlow, now living in Carlow town, was convicted last week at Carlow Circuit Criminal Court to assault causing harm to Alan Rossiter (44) and false imprisonment of Mr Rossiter at his family home in Rathellen between August 14 and August 15, 2022.

The owner of a nail salon has avoided a jail term for having drugs at her work and home while her husband is jailed for six years after he took responsibility for the haul. Edyta Scibior (36) who owns Home of Shellac in Carlow town told gardaí that she knew nothing about the cannabis and amphetamines found in the utility of her home, telling officers that she never went in there because it was too cold.

A man who admitted that he put two Valium tablets in his partner’s tomato and mayonnaise sandwich because he felt she needed to relax has been given a suspended sentence for poisoning the woman. Mark O’Neill (62) of Cois na Coille, Pollerton, Carlow Town pleaded guilty to intentionally or recklessly administering, or causing to be taken, a substance which he knows to be capable of interfering substantially with the other’s bodily functions in August 2024.

A rugby player who launched an unprovoked attack on a couple who were out socialising after he “misread the situation” has been jailed for two years. Barry Grey (23), Corballis, Castledermot, Kildare pleaded guilty to assaulting the couple, causing them harm at The Barracks pub, Tullow Street, Carlow on 25 June 2023. He has no previous convictions.

A warrant has been issued for the arrest of a Carlow man who was due to appear in court following his conviction for assaulting a man and bundling him into the boot of a car. Philip Moore (41) formerly of Rathellen, Leighlinbridge, Carlow, now living in Carlow town, was convicted last Friday at Carlow Circuit Criminal Court of false imprisonment of Alan Rossiter and assaulting the man causing him harm at Moore’s home in Rathellen between August 14 and August 15, 2022.
