    Although the etiology of immunoglobulin G4-related disease (IgG4-RD) is complex and not yet fully understood,1 it is believed to be caused by persistent inflammation from antigenic stimuli. After the immune system recognizes an antigenic agent or agents (eg, autoantigens, infectious agents, or allergens), the adaptive immune system activates a B- and T-cell response forming plasmablasts, Tfh cells, Tph cells, and CD4+ cytotoxic T-cells (CD4+CTL).
