The Pride Center hosted Spectrum of Strength at the Grand Salon in the USU on April 22. Queer and disabled students had the opportunity to learn about resources on and off campus, as well as bond with their peers. The discussion “Pillars to Queer Disability” was facilitated by two students from the Programs and Activities team, Shin Min and Raquel Apolinar, with help from team member Vesper Martinez.

The Board of Directors for CSUN’s Associated Students (AS) voted to pass a resolution on May 5 titled “Condemning Federal Actions from President Donald Trump and the Executive Branch. ” This resolution formally denounces the Trump administration’s executive orders and actions that target Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) programs and other initiatives related to universities.

Pastel decorations adornedtook over Matador Square on April 17 as the Equal Opportunities Program (EOP) hosted its annual Easter egg hunt. Over 50 students in attendance were givenprovided with snacks, egg-themed crafts and photo opportunities. EOP was established duringcreated from the Civil Rights Movement in the 1960s and was officially enacted in 1969, when CSUN was still known as Valley State College.

Those surrounding Sierra Tower could hear the sound of Doechii’s “Catfish,” as Northridge Street Dancers (NSD) performed in an April Fool’s flash mob. Street dancing is widely known for its hip-hop, pop lock and house styles. NSD performed in a hip-hop style with group and solo dancing, capturing students’ attention. NSD put together the surprise performance to bring attention to their club. The team recently went through a name change and, as a result, has lost publicity.

President Donald Trump signed an executive order to shut down the U.S. Department of Education this past Thursday, paving the way to begin dismantling the agency. Though the order was signed last week, the department had already seen cuts to programs aimed to help track educational progress and training, impacting educational resources across the country.
