    Those surrounding Sierra Tower could hear the sound of Doechii’s “Catfish,” as Northridge Street Dancers (NSD) performed in an April Fool’s flash mob. Street dancing is widely known for its hip-hop, pop lock and house styles. NSD performed in a hip-hop style with group and solo dancing, capturing students’ attention. NSD put together the surprise performance to bring attention to their club. The team recently went through a name change and, as a result, has lost publicity.

    President Donald Trump signed an executive order to shut down the U.S. Department of Education this past Thursday, paving the way to begin dismantling the agency. Though the order was signed last week, the department had already seen cuts to programs aimed to help track educational progress and training, impacting educational resources across the country.

    Music, laughter, and tons of yarn are key aspects of staying “in the loop” between classes—or at least they are for these craft-loving students on campus. In the Loop is the crocheting club at CSUN. Students can get together to learn how to make items by weaving yarn with a needle, teaching others and sharing their creations. New members receive crochet kits with all the materials needed to get started. Ashley Ortiz joined the club when it first started in 2023.

    Every Friday night and Saturday morning outside of the Sierra Tower, the clacking of dance shoes against concrete pavement can be heard as a group of dancers gather to practice folklorico, a Mexican cultural dance. Ballet Folklorico Aztlan de CSUN, or BFA de CSUN, was created in the 1960s during the Chicano movement, designed to combat inequality and uplift their identity. It has existed on campus for over half a century.

    Since President Donald Trump’s inauguration, his administration has taken the initiative to enact over 20 executive orders to undo changes made by the Biden administration. On his first day in office, the White House was restructured, eliminating many resources put in place by former President Joe Biden. The government website, reproductiverights.gov, created by the Biden administration after the overturning of Roe v. Wade, was among the resources removed.
